TANDBERG Adds Significant Reliability, Security Innovations to its Visual-Communication Systems

Completes its Multipoint Portfolio with MPS 200

New York, USA, and Oslo, Norway -- July 18, 2005 -- As organizations continue to expand their visual communication networks, TANDBERG®, a global leader in visual communication and innovation (OSLO: TAA.OL), today introduced major advances that enhance the dependability and security of its H.323 video-communication systems. In addition, the company completed its multipoint portfolio by introducing the TANDBERG MPS 200 for medium-sized enterprises.

Specifically, TANDBERG:

  • Broadened its multipoint portfolio with the addition of the TANDBERG MPS 200, a centralized product for the small-to-medium-sized enterprise. The MPS 200 features up to two media blades and handles a capacity of up to 32 audio and 32 video ports. In addition to the MPS 800, this is the only MCU on the market that supports features like H.264, AES encryption and MPEG4 AAC-LD 20 kHz audio without reducing the capacity.
  • Added another layer of security across its entire portfolio of H.323 systems by providing H.235 authentication. This username and password mechanism gives organizations control over who uses their network resources. Without the correct username and password, a system can’t register with the gatekeeper or border controller to place or receive calls.
  • Added a redundancy feature to the TANDBERG border controller, gatekeeper and management suite (TMS) that automatically re-routes calls if the initial call is unsuccessful, thus improving reliability and dependability.
  • Enhanced the scalability of its infrastructure by increasing the port count to 100 simultaneous calls from 20 for its gatekeeper and for the border controller of its Expressway™ firewall traversal solution. This means that a single network manages fewer devices but with more capacity.
  • Added support for the implementation of Call Policy. Using a standards-based methodology, TANDBERG allows administrators precise control over call flow and resource utilization on a system-by-system and call-by-call basis.

TANDBERG’s emphasis on security addresses the dilemma that many companies and organizations face between the need for open communications and secure connectivity. Executives want to open their networks to remote workers, partners and customers, but that raises security concerns. They cite security as the most critical aspect of their companies’ networks. The introduction of H.235 authentication for each component of an end-to-end solution is an industry first and continues TANDBERG’s track record as a pioneer in video-communications security.

TANDBERG’s emphasis on dependability also hits a responsive chord with video-communications users. “Customers must be able to rely on their systems to work every time – like a utility,” maintains Andrew Miller, TANDBERG’s chief executive officer. “Adding redundancy to our border controller, gatekeeper and TMS provides the reliability and confidence that network administrators demand.”

“TANDBERG continues to expand the adoption of visual communications through the introduction of innovative and scalable technology,” continued Miller. “All of our technology is built on strict principles that include security and reliability with business quality at the core, and integrates with familiar user tools and into the network environment.”
